Zachary Mason

Our son Zachary Mason Hiers was born Friday afternoon. He was 8.1 lbs measuring 20 in. We went in Thursday evening for the induction and without much excitement in the evening, I delivered him at 2 in the afternoon. We are very happy to have him here.

The countdown

We are on 2 days and counting until our amnio. Right now I am scheduled to be in Eugene at 9:30 Wednesday morning. Based on the results of the amnio either go in to the hospital Thursday night or we will have to wait until Mon/Tues of next week. Of course the 1st option is what we are really hoping for, but at the same time we really want to make sure our baby will be ready to come. It also feel like no matter how much I prepare to have a baby come, I don't feel prepared at all. There seems to be so many things that need to get done. One of our hold-ups already this week is sick kids. Marty and I spent the majority of the night up with the kids. Not just 1, but 2 were throwing up constantly last night. I think we both managed to get maybe 3 hours of sleep, of course waking up at intervals to take the kids to the toilet. This is definitely not the fun part of parenting.

Baby News

I have hit my 3rd trimester and am beginning to feel very pregnant. In fact I am now at 32 weeks and have realized that I have 2 months left. Most everyone knows that I had a pretty difficult delivery with Elizabeth. Because of that, when I was pregnant with Martin I was given the option to have a c-section. I chose not to go that route and opted for an amnio at 37 weeks. His lungs were not ready at 37 week and at 38 weeks I went in for an induction. He was 10 days early and weighed 8.2 pounds. With this baby my doctor wants to keep a close eye on him as well, just so we don't run into any complications as with Elizabeth. At my 32 week appointment I had an ultrasound to see how this baby is measuring. It turns out he is measuring 2 1/2 weeks ahead of schedule. In reality, I'm not really surprised, however that does mean we go through the same thing as we did with Martin. So, at 37 weeks I am heading in for an amnio and we will go from there. Feels like deja-vu all over again. This also means that I really only have 5 weeks of being pregnant left and need to get things in order. One thing I've been meaning to get do is buy a dresser for Martin. Once I do that I can put baby clothes in the changing table and then feel like a baby can come home. It seems like all this is happening so fast...where did my 40 weeks go??? What have I been doing all this time???

Daddy daughter dance

Each year, Roseburg holds a daddy daughter dance at the fairgrounds. This year Marty took Elizabeth for the 1st time. I had so much fun getting her ready for the dance and Marty enjoyed some quality time with his little girl. It was nice for me too, I got to spend some alone time with Martin.

Here we go again

Ok...we are starting potty training. It seems like I just did this with Elizabeth and wanted to pull my hair out during the process. I can remember being frustrated and wanting to throw my hands up and try later. I also remember it took forever. I felt we were potty training for months. So, with all that in mind we are beginning this adventure again, but with Martin. It is day 2 and I feel ok about it. Ask me in a week or 2 and I might change my mind, but I think things are going well...for the 2nd day.
He is completely opposite from Elizabeth. She could sit for hours on the potty watching t.v. and eventually would pee on the potty. Martin, you tell him to sit and pee and he just does it. Really, no waiting. Yes, he has had accidents, but I contribute that to not getting him to sit in enough time. Of course sometimes it takes 2 hours in between and at other times its only 15 min. At least he pees on command when he needs to go.

Dominican Republic

We recently got home from our trip to the Dominican Republic. It was a very nice vacation...I think Marty needed it most of all :) We took our kids with us on this trip and they loved it! I was impressed at how well both of them traveled. We had to get on 3 planes just to get there. They did sleep most of the flight.
They spent the majority of their time playing in the pool or on the sandy beach. One of the pools at the resort had a play set in the water. Martin loved climbing the steps and going down the slide that landed in the pool. It was only about waist-high. Elizabeth's favorite was the lazy river, which she called the noisy river. She wanted her own tube to float in...she's such a big girl. We did take some side trips. One trip was to the coffee/cocoa farm where they demonstrated how all that is made. Another trip was to on a boat to go snorkeling. Of course the kids didn't snorkel. We tried getting them in the water, but they cried. They did not like the ocean.
Marty, along with the grandparents, took them horseback riding. I couldn't go because I'm pregnant. The people there really frowned on me doing anything, because of my pregnancy. It was kind of annoying that I couldn't do hardly anything, but at the same time it gave me the chance to really relax and not have to go do anything but sit by the pool.
I will get more pictures posted when I get them from Kathy. She takes way more pictures than I do.
We had a great time and the week went by too fast. Maybe next time I can convince Marty of a 2 week vacation ;)

baby #3

It's about time that I get this posted. We are expecting another baby.

We went in for our 1st ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, so I'm about 12 weeks now. We are expecting this baby to appear in May and we couldn't be happier about our new addition to our family.
